New Hampton Inn on West 35th Street Attracts Families, Sports Fans and Business Guests

The new hotel on West 35th Street, named the Hampton Inn Manhattan - 35th Street/Empire State Building, opened on October 16 in time for the holiday and New Year’s Eve crowds that converged on midtown. Despite a gloomy end to the year, the new 20-story, 146-room inn reported 98% occupancy through December 26 – 31. The first two weeks of December were also very brisk as bargain-hunting out-of-towners came to do their holiday shopping, making a city weekend of their stay.

According to General Manager Cathy Pascale, a veteran of the New York hotel scene, a range of business and family attractions have combined to get the hotel off to a good start. “The Martin Luther King holiday weekend was a sell-out for us. And then the Winter Gift Show at the Javits Center brought us business guests.” Cathy sees a change in hotel residents between the weekday and weekend business. “We offer free breakfast and around nine a.m. on weekends all the families with kids are here. Then they’re off to the Radio City Music Hall, Times Square and shopping at places like Toys ‘R Us, Build-A–Bear Workshop and Macy’s. High school groups stay too, and with being so close to Madison Square Garden, there are lots of sports fans and concert-goers overnighting.” Weekdays it’s all business, particularly the fashion industry, “which seems to have adopted us as a reasonably-priced place to stay in the heart of the Fashion Center,” Cathy adds.

Rack rates range from $159 to $329 for a standard/king room with two double beds. The hotel has a well-equipped fitness room and a business center with free internet access. All rooms are hardwired and have wireless access plus 32” HDTVs with 200 stations and free premium movie channels. Complimentary continental breakfast is included and while the hotel does not have its own restaurant it does have a 24-hour arrangement with neighboring eateries for ordering-up, including sushi, pizza and Chinese food.

“This is a great address for us, right in the center of retail, attractions, sports events and conventions. We’re also handy for Penn Station so upstaters can get off Amtrak and check right in here for their stay in the city,” says Cathy.
